How long do residential energy storage batteries last?

Overcharging and degradation due to continual trickle charging and many other problems can be solved with more intelligent BMS or battery management systems. For instance using a load diversion circuit to shunt excess charging from a fully charges battery to a load of some sort other than the battery. Or at intervals, deliberately put on a load on a fully charged battery by way of load diversion of the battery output. BMS is not new at all , it was used in telecom industry for extending the life span of lead acid batteries.
